The D-bit is named after its distinctive D-shaped sidepieces, which prevent it from being pulled through the horse’s mouth easily. Due to the D-shape, the bit applies additional pressure on the horse’s cheeks, enhancing maneuverability. This makes it a popular choice for training young horses. The degree of severity of the D-snaffle bit’s effect is determined by several factors, including the type, thickness, and material of the bit, ranging from mild to sharp.
